Former Senator and 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to deliver Nigeria from what he described as “prevailing political cankerworms.”
In a resignation letter dated July 4 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate withdrawal from the party and all its activities.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” Melaye wrote.
He added that, after deep reflection on the current state of the party, he could no longer, “in good conscience,” participate in its affairs or support its agenda.
Melaye is an ally of former vice president Atiku Abubakar who also resigned from the PDP earlier in the month.
Melaye and Atiku have not yet announced their next political move; however, they are expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
