Former minister of environment under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Mohammed Abdullahi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abdullahi, who was first appointed as minister of state for science and technology before being redeployed to the environment ministry, announced his resignation in a letter dated June 1.
The letter was addressed to the APC chairman in his Uke ward, Karu LGA of Nasarawa state, and copied to other party officials.
He cited personal reasons for his decision to leave the party.
The former minister thanked the ward chairman for the support and cooperation extended to him throughout his membership in the APC.
He said they made modest contributions to the growth of the party in Nasarawa state.
“I wish you and the party good luck,” the letter read.
Abdullahi previously served as commissioner for justice and attorney-general of Nasarawa during the administration of Abdullahi Adamu.
He was later appointed secretary to the state government (SSG) under former governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura.
Sources say Abdullahi is nursing a governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
He is said to be unsure of clinching the APC ticket.
There are speculations he may defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he would face David Umbugadu, the 2023 PDP governorship candidate who still controls the party’s structure in the state.
Others suggest he may align with the proposed political coalition to secure a platform for his ambition.
