The federal government has announced a ban on single-use plastics across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Addressing State House correspondents, Salako emphasized that the ban is part of the government’s comprehensive plastic waste management strategy.

“This initiative demonstrates our commitment to addressing the triple threat of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution,” he stated.
The minister highlighted the severity of plastic pollution in Nigeria, describing it as “a major issue in our country.”

He reiterated the government’s dedication to mitigating environmental hazards and promoting sustainable practices.

He said the decision aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic waste and its detrimental effects on the environment.
