A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who served as an ad hoc worker during the recent elections in Mbaitoli Local Government of Imo state, has gone missing, heightening concerns about her safety and the integrity of the electoral process.
The local government collation officer, Dr Bolaji Olaleye, revealed during the presentation of election results that the youth corps member failed to answer numerous calls, sparking fears that something untoward might have happened to her.
He said the Bureau for Voter Authentication System (BVAS) and the crucial results sheet in her possession remain unrecovered.
He added that a call placed to a number provided by Olaleye was answered by a female who promptly ended the conversation when questioned about her whereabouts or well-being.
He said subsequent attempts to reach the number proved futile as the phone was switched off, adding that true caller identified the owner of the number as Mmesoma Maryann.
Dr Olaleye expressed uncertainty regarding the missing corps member’s circumstances, emphasizing that the absence of the BVAS and results sheet led to the cancellation of the election in ward three polling units.
“I don’t know what happened to the female Corp member, but we couldn’t locate the BVAS and results sheet in her possession, which led to the cancellation of the election in ward three polling units,” he told Punch.
