The Federal Government has suspended an airline, Execujet, for conveying music artist, Nairamarley to Abuja for a concert at the Jabi Lake Mall last week.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika made the revelation earlier today. Sirika disclosed that the flight that took Marley to Abuja was approved for a different purpose, to convey a service Justice from Lagos to Abuja and back, on official assignment. (Judiciary considered essential services).
The Flight operator violated its approval. Operations of the flight company have been suspended indefinitely and will also be fined. The Flight Captain will also be sanctioned for providing false information, the minister disclosed.
“We approved a flight indeed, but not for any musician. Approved flight was to convey a Justice on official assignment, but ExecuJet illegally used it to convey musician to Abuja for concert. We have suspended ExecuJet’s operations INDEFINITELY, will also be FINED.”
“Going forward we will escalate the mechanisms we have in place, and we will be stricter in our approvals (and enforcement),” he said.
This development is coming a day after FCT authorities shut down the Jabi Lake mall over the concert. Concert goers violated the Social distancing directive put in place by the federal government to curb the spread of COVID-19.
