The Federal Government may be lifting the suspension on Social Media giant, Twitter very soon.
Twitter was suspended in Nigeria in June 2021 after the micro-bloggin site deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari’s account for violating its terms of use.
However, on Wednesday after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by VP Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa, Nigeria’s minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, while fielding questions from state house correspondents, disclosed that progress has been made in meetings they have had with Twitter.
Mohammed explained that social media platform has accepted most of the conditions given to them but that some areas are still pending.
He said conversations are still being held on Twitter having staff management and an office in Nigeria.
He said that in the area of a Nigerian office, even though Twitter has agreed to the condition, it is however maintaining that the earliest it can establish it is 2022.
The minister expressed confidence that everything will be ironed out with Twitter within a few days or weeks.
