BREAKING: FG Vows to Arrest Sponsors of Hunger Protests, Places Them on Watchlist

The Nigerian government has announced that it has placed individuals sponsoring the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests on the watchlist of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).

Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, announced this on Tuesday at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, following a meeting convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.

According to Nandap, the sponsors, who are based in the diaspora, will be arrested immediately upon their return to Nigeria.

Nandap said, “We have diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted, any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to appropriate authority.”

The NIS has deployed additional officers to borders and airports to ensure effective surveillance and prevent foreign intervention.

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, also revealed that the agency has identified some sponsors, but declined to provide further information.

However, it was disclosed that some bank accounts linked to the sponsors have been blocked, and individuals operating these accounts from abroad are being monitored.

This development comes after President Bola Tinubu ordered a crackdown on the protests, which have been ongoing across the country.

The protesters are calling for the government to reverse certain policies that have worsened the nation’s economic crisis.
