A mysterious fire outbreak has burnt a section of the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, at Gidan Rumfa.
The incident occurred on Friday night, around 11 pm, according to palace sources.
The affected palace, located at Kofar Kudu, is where the Emir holds court every Monday.
The source revealed that the perpetrators forced open the door, set the fire, and locked it, destroying the throne, air conditioners, and other valuable items.
However, the Kano State Fire Service claimed they were not informed about the incident, as they didn’t receive any calls at their centres.
In contrast, the Chief of Staff to the Emir, Munir Sanusi Bayero, confirmed the incident in a statement.
He stated, “A fire incident occurred at the outer court of the Palace, Kofar Kudu, on Saturday morning, July 13, 2024. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was minimal.”
The statement added that the palace is taking measures to ensure the safety and security of the occupants and investigating the cause of the fire to prevent future incidents.
