BREAKING: Fire razes popular market in Yobe state, destroys 30 shops

A devastating fire has swept through the famous Abasha Market in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, gutting no fewer than 30 shops.

The fire broke out in the early morning hours on Tuesday, causing significant damage to the market.

According to the Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident was reported at approximately 6:23 a.m. Following a distress call, the police promptly responded by mobilizing personnel and dispatching firefighters to the scene.

The firefighting efforts were successful in eventually controlling the inferno, but the aftermath revealed the extensive destruction of over 30 shops.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or injuries resulting from the fire. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the fire’s origin.

The affected traders and shop owners have called on the government to support and assist them in rebuilding efforts.
