The newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd.), has officially taken charge at the Government House.
Upon arrival, he went into a closed-door meeting with senior security officials and key stakeholders.
His appointment follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Tuesday, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for six months. The President also dissolved the Rivers State House of Assembly as part of the emergency rule imposed on the state.
The decision comes after escalating political tensions in Rivers, fueled by the ongoing rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
