The Kano state government has finally issued a statement on a controversial professorial appointment offerred to state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by the East Carolina University.
POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Ganduje was appointed into the position of Senior Mentoring Scholar and Visiting Full Professor of e-governance and International Affairs in the university on November 30, 2020.
In a shocking twist of events, the university management a few days letter denied ever appointing Ganduje into such a position. Reacting to the development via a statement on Sunday signed by the SSG, Usman Alhaji, the state government called for a disciplinary action against the faculty member who stirred up the controversy that embarrassed the governor and also demanded an immediate apology from the University.
Mr Alhaji said that while the governor or any of official of his government has no reason to doubt the veracity of the letter sent by one of its faculty members, and allegedly communicated using the university’s instrument of office, it equally did not at any time solicit for such appointment.
“We are deeply saddened by the uproar stirred up by this controversial appointment that attempted to embarrass the person of the governor and the good people of Kano state,“ the statement added.
The statement disclosed further that the governor would be the last person on earth to have either solicit or accept fraudulent appointment into academic position in any university or institution of higher learning within and outside Nigeria.
