Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has opened the door of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, amid reports of a looming defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The invitation was made public by the Kano State APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who said the party is prepared to receive the governor if he decides to join the ruling party.

Governor Yusuf was elected on the platform of the NNPP.

However, his alleged plan to leave the party has caused deep divisions within its leadership and support base. The situation has heightened political tension in Kano.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP national leader and a long-time political ally of the governor, is opposed to the defection.

He is said to be uncomfortable with Yusuf’s reported move to the APC.

Speaking on behalf of Ganduje, Abbas described the invitation as a step driven by unity and reconciliation. He said the APC believes the decision would serve the wider interest of Kano State.

According to him, the ruling party sees the possible defection as an opportunity to strengthen governance and promote cooperation among political actors in the state.

“The APC is ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of the state,” Abbas said.

He added that once the defection is formalised, Governor Yusuf and other NNPP members who follow him will be welcomed into the APC under Ganduje’s leadership.

He noted that the process would be handled with mutual respect and a shared sense of responsibility.

Moreover, Party insiders say consultations are ongoing, as political stakeholders closely watch the unfolding developments.
