Governor Umo Eno is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the formal announcement of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expected on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The looming defection has unsettled Akwa Ibom’s political establishment, as key PDP stakeholders remain unusually silent.
It is understood that the PDP leadership has been caught off guard by the pace of the development. Prominent figures in the party, including elders, former officeholders, and appointees, have withheld public comment, fuelling speculation about internal discontent and disappointment.
The expected switch comes at a time of growing tension within the governor’s camp. Reports indicate that several of his aides—including Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Personal Assistants (PAs)—may not accompany him to the APC.
Sources close to the APC confirm that top party figures, including governors from the South-South region, have concluded plans to travel en masse to Akwa Ibom for the major reception.
The move, if confirmed, would reduce PDP’s control to just ten states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, and Zamfara.
