Ododo reacts to Supreme Court judgement on Kogi gov’ship election

Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld his election as the state’s governor.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Ododo praised the apex court for standing firm in the face of intimidation and upholding the law, describing the judiciary as the “last hope of the common man.”

Ododo highlighted the significance of the court’s decision, stating, “I feel elated not just because of our victory but because of how the judiciary held onto the point of law and ensured justice in this matter. They were threatened, they were called names, they were intimidated, but they have held onto the point of law.”

He emphasized that the victory was not only his but also for the people of Kogi State, who turned out in large numbers to vote on November 11, 2023.

The governor also dedicated his victory to God and President Bola Tinubu, commending him for his commitment to strengthening the judiciary to perform its duties without fear or favor.

Responding to questions about his expectations before the judgment, Ododo expressed confidence in the election’s credibility, noting, “The election was conducted credibly and transparently. In the history of Kogi, it was the most peaceful election, and we won.”

He added that despite the ongoing litigation, his administration remained focused on delivering good governance to the people of Kogi.

Ododo extended an olive branch to opposition candidates, particularly Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging them to work with him to advance the state’s development.

“We have always extended the olive branch to them to join us to move Kogi forward,” Ododo said.

“It is not a personal fight; it is a contestation to hold power on behalf of the people, to serve them.”

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to building a united and prosperous Kogi State, emphasizing that all stakeholders must come together to discuss and advance the state’s affairs.
