The Election Petition Tribunal, on Wednesday, sacked a House of Representatives member, Gboluga Ikengboju, who represents Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Tribunal stated that its decision was made based on the defendant’s sworn allegiance to the United Kingdom as the citizen of the country.
According to the court, he was, therefore, not eligible to contest February 23, 2019, National Assembly election owing to his allegiance to the UK. The tribunal then declared Albert Akintoye of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.
The court, therefore, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue Certificate of Return to Akintoye after withdrawing same from Gboluga.
