Troops reject N1.5m bribe from alleged cattle rustlers in Plateau

Troops belonging to Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a military taskforce responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, demonstrated integrity by rejecting a N1.5 million bribe offered by suspected cattle rustlers in Plateau.

According to Capt. James Oya, the Media Officer of the operation, the troops, stationed at Sector four, apprehended two suspected rustlers who attempted to bribe them.

Oya highlighted that the eight personnel involved in rejecting the bribe were not only praised but also rewarded by Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the commander of the operation.

The incident occurred when the personnel intercepted 30 rustled cows at a checkpoint near Bisichi in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The cattle, owned by Shehu Umar, had been stolen in Mangu and were being transported to an undisclosed location when stopped by the troops during a routine stop and search operation.

The suspects, identified as Anas Usman, aged 20, and Gyang Cholly, aged 42, attempted to bribe the troops in order to obtain a security pass for the stolen cattle.

However, the troops firmly rejected the monetary offer and proceeded to arrest the suspects along with the bribe money.

Commending the troops for their courage and exemplary conduct, the commander emphasized the importance of upholding integrity in the discharge of their duties.

He urged personnel from other security agencies to follow suit, contributing to the overall safety of lives and property in the state.
