Suspected hoodlums on Thursday broke into the National Correctional Service center in Okitipupa, Ondo State, releasing inmates.
Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command of the NCS, Barr. Ogundare Babatunde said the jailbreak happened in the morning.
He, however, revealed that no fewer than 58 inmates were released from their various cells, while a vehicle was burnt and several items were destroyed during the attack.
In a related development, irate youths have attacked the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on Thursday and set the facility on fire as they attempted jailbreak.
A video that has since gone viral shows smoke coming from parts of the center of the prison, while inmates and hoodlums were seen escaping. It was, however, learned that security operatives dispersed the hoodlums and foiled the attempted jailbreak.
