The Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya and his deputy, Musa Bawa Musa Yankuzo, have been defeated in the March 18 election by the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Returning Officer (RO) for the Zurmi West Constituency election, Ismail Mudassir Moriki, on Monday declared Bilyaminu Ismail of the PDP the winner of the state house of assembly election in the Speaker’s constituency.
Ismail garnered 11,213 votes to defeat the Speaker who scored 9,530 votes.
In a similar vein, the Deputy Speaker of the state assembly, Yankuzo, lost his re-election bid to the PDP’s Bello Muhammad Mazawaje, who polled 21,197 votes ahead of Yankuzo’s 13, 820 votes. Both losers are chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, as the collation of the Saturday’s governorship election results continues, the Zamfara State chapter of the PDP, on Monday, accused Governor Bello Matawalle of allegedly kidnapping the Returning Officer of the Maradun Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
In a statement in Gusau, the State capital, the opposition party through the Dauda Lawal Media Office stated that the governor, who is a chieftain of the ruling APC, was pushing hard to disrupt the collation process and manipulate the results of the governorship election.
Lawal is leading Matawalle in the five local government areas declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) so far.
