BREAKING: House of Representatives Orders Aviation Ministry to Suspend Nigeria Air

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has issued a directive to the Federal Ministry of Aviation and its collaborators involved in the Nigeria Air project, instructing them to immediately halt all flight operations and cease any further actions related to the airline.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this decision was reached during an investigative hearing, wherein the committee summoned the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and other relevant stakeholders to present themselves and provide necessary information.

It is worth noting that this newspaper previously reported on the matter, highlighting Chairman Nnolim Nnaji’s declaration that the entire Nigeria Air project was a fraudulent scheme, especially after key stakeholders such as Ethiopian Airlines denied any knowledge or involvement in the venture.

During the hearing, the committee, led by Chairman Nnolim Nnaji, read a resolution criticising the project’s lack of transparency.

In response, the committee called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a high-level Presidential Committee responsible for conducting a comprehensive review of the entire Nigeria Air project’s processes and offering recommendations to the government on the way forward.

Additionally, the committee insisted that individuals, groups, or organisations implicated in the controversial undertaking known as “Nigeria Air Take-Off” be held accountable through legal prosecution and appropriate sanctions.

Part of the resolution emphasised, “A thorough examination of the process reveals a highly secretive and questionable exercise that risks undermining Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage. We want to make it clear that the Committee, as well as the entire National Assembly, had no involvement whatsoever in the purported launch of Nigeria Air or any related activities.”
