The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to disclose the financiers of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
The resolution was passed during Wednesday’s plenary session, following the adoption of a report from last week’s security debate.
Communities across the country have recently faced renewed attacks by armed groups, with a rising number of schoolchildren being abducted.
The report stated, “That financiers of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping be publicly named, sanctioned and prosecuted.
“That terrorism-related prosecutions be open, expeditious and transparent.”
Lawmakers also urged the federal government to establish a special court dedicated to terrorism, banditry and kidnapping cases.
They recommended stricter enforcement of penalties for arms trafficking and illegal possession of weapons.
In addition, the legislators called for the creation of a truth, justice and reconciliation commission to address extremist, communal and religiously motivated violence.
The House noted that more than 40 security recommendations from the report will be forwarded to the Senate for concurrence, and subsequently transmitted to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, state governments, and other relevant institutions for implementation.
The charge comes Amid recent occurrences of violent wave of terrorists and bandits attacks across Nigeria.
