The presidency has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working on creating what it calls institutional buffers that will stop influential persons or public officers from engaging in corrupt practices.
This was the revelation of Ajuri Ngelale on Saturday, August 5, President Tinubu’s special adviser, during an interview with Arise News.
According to Ngelale, Tinubu has what it takes to fight and defeat the “elite of the elite” who enrich themselves with Nigeria’s economic flaws.
He noted that the Tinubu-led administration wants to go beyond being just reactionary in dealing with the issue of corruption, which has to do with arresting and prosecuting looters of public funds who get so influential to the point of influencing the judiciary.
His words:
“What we need to do now is to, yes, deal with the reactive of it, which is trying to recover assets and trying to put people in jail, even though we know the judicial system is an issue.
“The other part of this is going to be about creating institutional buffers that stop people from doing that in the first place.
He added that Tinubu has “done it before, and he’s going to do it again, but prevention, for us, is the focus more cure, even though we deal with the cure.”
