The immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, is dead.
Baru died on Friday night after a brief illness in an Abuja hospital. The former NNPC boss’s death was first announced by the GMD of the corporation, Mele Kyari, in a tweet on Saturday morning.
“My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night,” Kyari said.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.”

Also, the NNPC has announced the demise of its former GMD, Maikanti Kachalla Baru, on Friday night.
In a statement released by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Dr. Kennie Obateru, the corporation said that Dr. Baru, a consummate Mechanical Engineer, died after a brief illness in an Abuja hospital.
The statement said NNPC Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, has expressed shock over the sudden death of Dr. Baru who was the 18th Group Managing Director of the Corporation.
Kyari described the late 60-year-old as a man ‘of exemplary character and disposition.
