Amara Iwuanyanwu, the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, was on Tuesday removed from his position. Iwuanyanwu’s removal happened under tight security during the plenary today.
Ekene Nnodim from Orlu state constituency, submitted a resolution signed by 18 out of the 27 lawmakers for the removal of Iwuanyanwu as the Deputy Speaker.
The Speaker, Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary, okayed the removal of Iwuanyanwu.
Imo Deputy Speaker Impeached
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly also recalled six suspended lawmakers of the state legislature.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that about five days ago, the Speaker of the Plateau State House Assembly, Abok Ayuba Nuhu was impeached amid corruption allegations.
Plateau Speaker arrested
His impeachment occurred at the plenary last Thursday after 16 out of 24 members of the Assembly voted him out. On Monday, Ayuba and 11 of his loyalists in the house were whisked away to unknown destination by security operatives supervised by the Commissioner of Police (CP) Edward Egbuka.
The CP who refused to reveal their destination, did not allow the legislators to speak to journalists. The two sides of the road leading to the Assembly complex were barricaded by armed policemen, making it impassable for motorists.
A peaceful protest was staged by the youth in front of the complex.
