Board of LAWSAN nullifies election of new executives result

The Board of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) has rejected the convention of Michael Arinze and others from the position of executives, senate and appointees of the Association.

The statement was disclosed by the secretary to the Board of LAWSAN, Mohammad Kime, on Monday, after discussions held on December 2. Following the decision, a new timetable for election to the National Executive Council (NEC) and legislative arm of LAWSAN is set to be released soon, before December 20.

The disciplinary committee is currently setting up an investigation against one of the Board members, namely Emmanuel Nwobodo, who is now suspended for his refusal and failure to appear before the committee.

The meeting was attended by members of the board, including Blessing Agbomhere, Mohammed Kime, Zainab Mukhtar, Sowari Dikibo, Dhikrullah Olarinoye, and Ibrahim Ibrahim.

The Board will open a “Corporate Account in the name of LAWSAN in any reputable and youth-friendly Nigerian Bank to receive all gifts and donations to the Association”. According to Kime, such is an effort to uphold accountability and transparency within LAWSAN, and other parties involved.

Moreover, a fund-raising dinner will be held on or before December 30, to help generate resources for LAWSAN.

LAWSAN was established in 2016. Since then, it acts as a means to promote the interests of undergraduate law students in the country, while also providing them support to become lawyers.
