A National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar Nahuche, has tendered his resignation letter.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, confirmed the resignation in a statement on Monday. Okoye disclosed Nahuche, National Commissioner and chairman, Estate, Works and Transport Committee resigned his appointment due to personal reasons.
Okoye noted that Nahuche has also submitted his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. He said that the President has accepted his resignation and thanked him for his services to the nation.
The INEC commissioner also disclosed that five National Commissioners have retired from the service of the commission paving the way for new commissioners to assume the vacant positions.
The retired commissioners are Hajiya Amina Zakari, Prof. Antonia Taiye Okoosi-Simbine, Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Lecky, and Prince Adedeji Solomon Soyebi.
Recall that the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had handed over to Air Vice Marshall Ahmed Mu’azu (retd.), to oversee the affairs of the commission pending the confirmation of his reappointment by the senate.
