The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the schedule for bye-elections and re-run elections necessitated by vacancies in the National and State Houses of Assembly.
The vacancies were declared following the resignation or demise of several members of the legislative bodies.
The vacancies span across two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, impacting nine states within the federation.
Additionally, the Commission is set to conduct re-run elections based on directives from various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals affecting 35 constituencies. Among these, three constituencies will have comprehensive re-run elections, while others will involve specific polling units.q
The elections are slated to occur simultaneously across all affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024.
To ensure transparency and facilitate the electoral process, the Commission has uploaded the detailed timetable, including crucial delimitation data such as registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, on its official website and social media platforms.
It said the information aims to guide political parties, candidates, and the general public.
National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, in a statement, emphasized the significance of adhering to the outlined timelines for a smooth and efficient electoral process.
The commission also urged strict compliance from all parties and candidates involved in the elections.
