The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reacted to rumours of a plan to postpone the Edo state Gubernatorial Elections by two weeks due to coronavirus concerns.
It will be recalled that in 2016, the Edo state elections were shifted by 2 weeks following concerns of insecurity.
However, on Monday, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman disclosed that there was no iota of truth in the report, saying that the election will hold on September 19th.
“No, we are not shifting the date. We are, in fact, going to Benin for the Stakeholders’ meeting and the signing of the Peace Accord next week. The election will hold as scheduled on 19th September 2020″ .
The atmosphere in Edo state is tense as the electoral battle is majorly between the Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC and Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP.
