The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to immediately arrest Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, who was seen assaulting a police officer in uniform in a viral video.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has also ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the incident to determine the underlying cause of the assault.
The statement added that the suspect will be prosecuted according to the findings of the investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.
The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.

In response to the incident, which caused a stir on social media, Seun Kuti took to his Instastory on Saturday to clarify what happened. He claimed that the officer attempted to harm him and his family, but the policeman has since apologised and he has forgiven him.
Kuti also cautioned those who accused him of seeking attention to refrain from doing so and to avoid causing the police officer to lose his job.
In his words, “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I’m not seeking attention. He has apologized, and I have agreed not to press charges. Please mind your business and ensure the poor guy doesn’t lose his job.” [sic]
