Nnamdi Kanu’s brother attacks British govt over IPOB leader’s ordeal

Kingsley ‘Kanunta’ Kanu, younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday described as “remarkable” the British government’s “procrastination and apparent paralysis in the face of serious human rights abuses” allegedly suffered by his sibling.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in June, Kanu’s family threatened to sue the British government over its “silence” on the alleged illegal extraordinary rendition of the IPOB leader to Nigeria.

The family accused the then UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs and former British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, of ignoring “overwhelming evidence” that Kanu was “extraordinarily renditioned” to Nigeria by the Nigerian government.

A UK-court has heard the family’s suit but is yet to issue a final verdict.

Kanu, 55, is a Nigerian-British citizen who is currently detained at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, Abuja over alleged terrorism.

Kingsley argued that the British government should be alarmed when its citizens are detained abroad.

“#MaziNnamdiKanu’s case has a much wider dimension. However, the British Government’s procrastination and apparent paralysis in the face of serious human rights abuses is remarkable.

“If it is politically acceptable, then British Citizens has much to worry about when detained abroad,” Kanu wrote on his known Twitter handle.
