Terrorist group, ISIS Leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi has been confirmed killed by US Special Forces in an overnight operation in Syria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that US President, Joe Biden made the announcement on Thursday.
“Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces in northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place,” Biden said in a statement.
It is understood that Al-Qurayshi ultimately detonated a bomb that killed him and members of his family during the U.S. raid, according to a US official speaking to The Associated Press.
The raid took place in northwest Syria on Thursday, the same region where the previous leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed by U.S. special forces in 2019.
First responders reported that 13 people had been killed, including six children and four women.
“Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi — the leader of ISIS,” Biden declared.
