BREAKING: ISWAP terrorists attack Babangida Town in Yobe

A large column of ISWAP insurgents is currently attacking Babangida town in Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, according to HumAngle.

Located about 42 km from Damaturu, the state capital, Babangida had also been attacked in August 2021.

ISWAP is a militant group and the administrative division of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a Salafi jihadist militant group and unrecognised proto-state.

The terrorist group is primarily active in the Chad Basin, and fights an extensive insurgency against the states of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. It is a offshoot of Boko Haram with whom it has developed a violent rivalry, killing Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in 2021.

In addition, ISWAP is formally the umbrella organization for all ISIL factions in West Africa; the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (IS-GS) is thus formally part of ISWAP, although the actual ties between ISWAP and IS-GS are limited.
