Terrorists of a splinter of Boko Haram, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Thursday attacked Nigerian Army troops positions in Doron Baga, Borno, in the far north-east of Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the insurgents wounded some soldiers and completely burnt two Hilux vehicles.
Full details of the attack remain sketchy but this newspaper can report that an alarm was raised about an impending attack on the military in Kukawa, Borno state.
ISWAP, a branch of ISIL (ISIS), mainly targets the Nigerian military. It has grown in influence and power in recent years, with an estimated 3,500-5,000 fighters overshadowing the 1,500-2,000 in the late Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction, according to the International Crisis Group (ICG).
More than 40,000 people have died in Nigeria’s conflict and about two million more people have been displaced from their homes by insurgency-linked violence.

The Federal government, president buhari, the minister of defense, the chief of defense staff, the minister of finance and the central bank governor should please release our soldiers operation allowances under border patrol and operation swift response and border drill. The troops are owed for January 2021 to May 2021 when they were withdrawn. The border patrol is a combined operation with the customs, police, immigration, DSS and the Army. Please it is very unfair after working hard for over a year the govt will refuse to pay us our allowances. This is what we soldiers suffer from a country we have sworn to die for. We are also seeing how politicians feed fat and forget to fight for the right cause after sharing money. One day the story will change. Please pay our allowances we are crying out. It is very dangerous to owe soldiers please.
Troops achieved success during the period of the border patrol/drill. Soldiers where feeding themselves and paying accommodation for themselves, some soldiers got chronic diseases because they had no money to travel for treatment. before we were withdrawn in may 2021. Please have pity for your soldiers because we have children to take care of. We have family that rely on us and we manage our small salary we don’t complain. This allowances has stayed too long since last year 2021. If they have eaten our allowances then God will judge them. Please kindly help as soldiers has been short changed.
