The Nigerian presidency has shared more details as the state-owned Port Harcourt Refinery has commenced processing crude oil production.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, on Tuesday morning disclosed that the refinery kicked off with 60 percent capacity, processing 60,000 barrels per day of crude.
The commencement of production at the refinery comes after several failed deadlines.
Meanwhile, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, shared more details of the development, stating that 200 trucks are expected to be loaded with products daily from the refinery.
In a video accompanying his statement, Dare explained that the Port Harcourt Refinery has two wings, with the Old Refinery coming on stream with an installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels per day of crude oil.
He said, “The Port Harcourt Refinery has two Wings. The Old Refinery comes on stream today with an installed production capacity of 60, 000 barrels per day of crude oil. About 200 trucks are. Expected to load products daily from the refinery Renewing the Hopes of Nigeria.”
The rehabilitation exercise for the refinery, worth $1.5 billion, was approved by the Nigerian government in 2021. There are two state-owned refineries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which combine to form the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) with a combined installed capacity of 210,000 barrels per day (bpd).
