Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Mrs. Favour Kanu, sister-in-law to the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to leave the courtroom.
The judge gave the order after discovering that Favour recorded the court proceedings and shared them on her social media platform.
Justice Omotosho barred her from attending the next three sessions of the court. He said he would have cited her for contempt but refrained due to appeals made by defence lawyer Kanu Agabi.
Before issuing the order, the judge called Favour—believed to be the wife of Nnamdi Kanu’s brother—to the front of the court and questioned her action.
Favour admitted that she had streamed the session live but claimed she did not know the judge was still sitting.
She then apologised and promised not to do the same again.
The trial involves terrorism and treasonable felony charges first filed in 2015, following Kanu’s arrest in Lagos.
