Tension erupted at the Federal High Court on Thursday after Justice James Omotosho ordered security officers to remove detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from the courtroom.

The judge was set to deliver judgment in the long-running terrorism case, but the session was interrupted when Kanu insisted that the court could not proceed without accepting his “written address.”

Kanu repeatedly questioned the judge, demanding to know where the law stated that he could not file the document.

His continuous outbursts forced Justice Omotosho to pause the proceedings and instruct security personnel to escort him out of the courtroom.

Before the disruption, the judge had dismissed several new motions brought by Kanu. He ruled that the applications raised issues previously settled by the court.

The judge also declined Kanu’s request to refer the matter to the Court of Appeal, explaining that Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act prohibits any form of stay in criminal trials.

Kanu’s request for bail was also rejected. Justice Omotosho stated that some of the issues raised in the defence motions would be addressed in the final judgment.

However, as the judge attempted to begin reading the judgment, Kanu refused to allow the process to continue, insisting loudly that the court lacked jurisdiction without admitting his written address.

His resistance prompted the eventual order to eject him from the courtroom.
