BREAKING: Kano police command vow strict enforcement of protest ban by state govt

The Kano State Police Command has vowed to enforce the recently announced state government ban on all forms of public protests.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, issued a stern warning that any individual found participating in demonstrations will face arrest and prosecution.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CP Gumel emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and urged all residents of Kano State to comply with the government’s directive.

“We call on all Kano State residents to remain patriotic and obey the order issued by the State Government,” he said.

The police commissioner highlighted that joint security forces have been placed on high alert to ensure that the ban is strictly adhered to and to swiftly address any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace.

“Joint security personnel are on red alert and will deal ruthlessly with any person who attempts to disrupt the peace in the State,” CP Gumel reiterated.

He said the decision to ban protests follows credible intelligence suggesting that opposition elements were planning to incite chaos under the guise of public demonstrations, particularly in relation to the contentious issue of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

Governor Abba Yusuf had earlier announced the ban through his Media and Publicity Director, Sanusi Bature, as a preemptive measure to avoid any potential breakdown of law and order.

The directive instructed the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enforce the ban stringently.

“We are aware of plans by certain prominent figures from the opposition to sponsor student associations and political agitators to incite chaos,” Bature’s statement noted.

“The State Government has outlawed all protests, demonstrations, and processions,” he added.
