Senator Kawu Samaila, who represents Kano South in the National Assembly, has officially confirmed his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the confirmation in a statement posted Wednesday on his Facebook page.
“Yes, it is true — the rumours regarding my defection are accurate. All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency. I am resolutely determined to advance the lives of my people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured,” Samaila wrote.
The senator’s move follows a public appeal from 16 APC local government chairmen and their secretaries in Kano South, who had earlier called on him to return to the party.
His defection adds to a growing wave of defection from opposition ranks to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, there are rumours of a potential defection of NNPP national leader and former Kano Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the ruling party.
