BREAKING: Kogi off-cycle governorship election tribunal to convene Saturday

The Kogi State Off-Cycle Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, headed by Justice Monica Bolna’an-Dongban, is set to kick off proceedings this Saturday, November 25, 2023.

The announcement was confirmed by Mr David Umar-Mike, the tribunal’s Secretary, in a statement sent to journalists today.

Following the November 11 election, Alhaji Usman Ododo secured victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 446,237 votes, while Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) trailed with 259,052 votes.

The tribunal secretary outlined Saturday’s agenda, focusing on exparte motions, with the anticipation of a subsequent process that will involve legal counsels acquiring crucial documents from entities like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before filing petitions.

Umar-Mike emphasized the tribunal’s alignment with constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act, marking the commencement of proceedings at the state High Court of Justice complex in Lokoja.

The development sets the stage for a significant legal evaluation of the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Kogi State.
