The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Muhammed Akanbi, is dead.
POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that Prof. Akanbi died on Sunday night after a brief illness. He was 51.
KWASU Registrar, Mrs Kikelomo Salle, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ilorin.
“We urge everyone to remember his immediate and extended family, and the University in prayers in this very trying time.
“Burial arrangement will be announced soon,” Salle said.
This newspaper understands that the deceased is expected to be buried in Ilorin on Monday, in accordance with Islamic rites.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Kwara State Governor, has commiserated with the deceased’s family.
Abdulrazaq, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Rafiu Ajakaye, described the VC’s demise as painful and shocking.
“We submit to the decree of Allah who gives and takes. It is against that backdrop that we mourn the Vice Chancellor who answered Allah’s call tonight.
“He was a true and humble servant of Allah and we beseech our God, the Oft-Forgiving and Merciful, to grant him al-jannah Firdaus,” he said.
