The Lagos State Government has effected the arrest of the developer of a building that collapsed in Yaba area of the state on Saturday.
POLITICS NIGERIA had earlier reported that the building, situated at No. 16 Akanbi Crescent, Onike, Yaba, suddenly collapsed trapping several workers under its rubble.
It was gathered that Government officials had put a stop work order on the property but the developer violated the order and broke the Government’s seal on the Property. So Far, 3 people have been confirmed dead.
An official of the Lagos State Building Control Agency on the condition of anonymity told Punch; “We had told them two times last year to stop work. I wonder why most Nigerians don’t listen to authority. Part of this building as we learnt then collapsed before and we told them to stop.
Lagos state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, in a statement on the matter revealed that the site had been sealed off twice by LSBCA last year. He disclosed that the developer was picked up by the Lagos Police Rapid Response Team.
“The Developer in charge of the site has since been arrested and handed over to the RRS Team, while rescue operation is ongoing,”, the statement read in part.
