Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated the Yaba Overpass Bridge, marking its official opening for public use. The overpass is the first of four lined up for commissioning by the state government.
The remaining three overpasses awaiting commissioning are located at Oyingbo, Mushin, and Ikeja. The government said the infrastructures are part of a larger plan that includes four more overpasses to be constructed by the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu arrived at approximately 12:20 p.m., welcomed by the Deputy Governor, Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, represented by the deputy chairman.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Hon. Ademola Kasumu, Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation Sola Giwa, as well as royal figures led by representatives of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
Other prominent attendees included Oba Bashiru Oloto, Oloto of Oyo, the Onisabe of Igbobi-Sabe in Yaba, the Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon. Kayode Oniyale, and a league of council chairmen.
Notable personalities like former High Commissioner to Ghana, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, Managing Directors of LAMATA, Engr Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of Craneburg Construction (contractor for the Yaba Overpass Bridge) Gilbert Sassine, and representatives from the University of Lagos and Yabatech were also present at the inauguration.
