The Labour Party (LP) has expressed disappointment in the Organised Labour’s decision to suspend its nationwide indefinite strike, labelling the move as hasty and lacking in resolve.
According to Kennedy Ahanotu, the party’s National Youth leader, the strike should have continued for at least three days to demonstrate the workers’ determination and force the government to take their demands seriously.
Ahanotu took to social media to express his disappointment, questioning whether the government had reversed any of its decisions, particularly regarding the electricity tariff increase and new minimum wage.
Earlier the party through Ahanotu hailed the decision of the organized labour to go on strike.
“I write to encourage the Nigerian workers (NLC/TUC) to stand tall despite the slippery promises of these current occupants of the Villa to prove to them that it is WE the CITIZENS that lays the eggs they feed on. We, the Nigerian youths, are willing to join you to make a national statement one’s and for all to reset the brain of these selfish leaders who feast on our commonwealth. Enough should be enough,” the statement said.
The strike, which began on Monday, impacted greatly on the economy, prompting the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to intervene and meet with labour leaders.
Following this meeting, President Tinubu agreed to increase the minimum wage offer above N60,000 and resume daily negotiations.
