BREAKING: Malami receives names of SARS operatives listed for dismissal, trial

The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) is set to prosecute 35 operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Mr. Tony Ojukwu, made this known to reporters after a meeting with the minister at the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

Ojukwu noted that he came to submit the list of the erring SARS operatives who have been recommended for trial and immediate sack from the Nigeria Police Force to the minister. He added that the list was drawn from 12 States and the Federal Capital Territory.

The NHRC boss noted that the SARS officers were indicted by a three-man panel that was set-up to review and advise the federal government on implementation of recommendations of the Presidential Panel on Reform of SARS.

He noted that the commission found the indicted SARS operatives guilty of extra-judicial killings, extortion, unlawful arrest and detention.

Other offences ranged from the seizure of properties, illegal blockage of bank accounts of innocent citizens, threat and intimidation, and blackmail.
