Some residents of Kano State have been reportedly killed while others sustained various degrees of injuries after a trailer lost control due to brake failure.
The incident was said to have occurred on the popular Muhammadu Buhari bridge in Kano Metropolis on Friday, February 14, 2025.
A social media user, Yahya Abubakar Sadiq, who commented on the mishap said the trailer was heading to the Southern part of Nigeria when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Sadiq said, “Right now, at Hotoro NNPC, under the bridge from Mariri to Unguwa Uku, a truck (Tarela) has overturned, carrying both people and goods. At least more than twenty people were involved, some have lost their lives, while others have sustained serious injuries.”
Eyewitnesses who spoke on the incident said the trailer lost control while approaching the bridge from the Maiduguri Road.
According to Shuaibu Hamisu, a resident of the area, the driver was trying to navigate the interchange through the underpass tunnel towards Ring road and Zaria highway when the vehicle slipped.
Hamisu said, “The trailer slipped inside the underpass. Others have been rescued while many lost their lives on the spot.
Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service command they were working to get details.
