BREAKING: N8.6 billion payments to ‘no-show contractors’ uncovered in FG’s 2022 budget

Tracka NG, a social accountability initiative, has revealed disbursements totalling N8.6 billion to 26 ‘No-Show Contractors’ for 19 projects across nine states as outlined in the Federal Government’s 2022 Budget.

The investigation disclosed various irregular payments made to contractors for projects that have yet to show progress.

Some highlighted instances include:

1) Abu-Halawa International Limited: Received N542 million between December 2020 and April 2023 under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for the Construction of Jare Earth Dam in Katsina. However, no visible work has been initiated at the project site.

2) Babar Global Services Nigeria Ltd and Foundation Solid (NIG) LTD: Received a payment of N630 million between July 2022 and September 2023 under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for the Construction of the Ogbese Multi-Purpose Dam Project in Ekiti. The project site has been abandoned since 2021.

3) Laralek Ultimate Ltd: Received a payment of N400 million in March 2023 under the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing for the Limited Rehabilitation of Opo Malu Road in Saki, Oyo State. However, the contractor has not commenced any work at the site.

These revelations were part of Tracka NG’s 2022 Project Tracking Report titled “Empowering Communities for Economic Growth.”

The report shed light on multiple instances of funds disbursed to contractors without corresponding progress, indicating non-execution or abandonment of projects despite significant financial allocations.
