BREAKING: National Judicial Council recommends Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has nominated Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The NJC made the recommendation at its 106th meeting presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, held on August 14 and 15.

Oyo-born Ariwoola will formally leave office on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The Council also recommended 27 candidates for appointment as judges of state courts and a candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia
Court of the FCT, Abuja to their various governors and the president.

When sworn in, Lagos-born Kekere-Ekun will be the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history.

Recall that on July 16, 2012, Aloma Mukhtar was sworn in as the first woman CJN by the then-serving President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who conferred on her the National Honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger.

  1. My fear of her is that she is coming to follow the template of her predeccessor in perversion of justice for filthy lucre at the expense of free, fair and transparent election.
Seeing into the coming 2027 general election as her turn.
