BREAKING: NDIC Deploys 400 Staff to Heritage Bank Branches as Depositors Demand for Funds

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has deployed 400 staff members to 116 branches of the recently liquidated Heritage Bank across the country.

This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth payment process for depositors.

This publication earlier reported that anxious customers who converged at the premises of Heritage Bank in Calabar, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office, early Wednesday morning caused a scene at the venue.

The crowd, which gathered as early as 7 am, was denied entrance to the bank, leading to commotion as customers struggled to access the bank’s facility.

An official from Heritage Bank addressed the agitated crowd at around 10 am, urging them to disperse and assuring them that their funds would be transferred to their other bank accounts linked to their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).

The official appealed for calm, assuring that the bank would commence the exercise on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Monday, announced the revocation of the operating licence of Heritage Bank Plc with immediate effect.

The CBN said it revoked the bank’s license because it failed to improve its financial performance, and posed a threat to financial stability.
