BREAKING: Nigerian Army announces major promotions for 122 senior officers

The Nigerian Army Council unveiled a significant wave of promotions on Thursday, December 21, 2023, approving the elevation of numerous senior officers to higher ranks within the military hierarchy.

The announcement by Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu highlighted the advancement of key individuals across the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General.

A total of 47 Brigadier Generals have ascended to the esteemed rank of Major General, marking a pivotal moment in their military careers.

Additionally, 75 Colonels have been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General, signifying a remarkable recognition of their service and commitment.

Brig Gen WB Etuk, currently serving as the Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management; Brig Gen JE Osifo, commanding the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration; and Brigadier General WM Dangana, leading Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, are among the esteemed officers promoted to Major General.

The list includes several accomplished individuals such as Brig Gen TB Ugiagbe, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, and Brig Gen ASM Wase, Deputy Director General of Land Forces Stimulation Centre, Nigeria Operations. Noteworthy promotions extend to Brig Gen MA Abdullahi, Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, and Brig Gen BI Alaya, Commander of Command Engineering Depot, among others.

Simultaneously, a robust cohort of officers has risen from Colonel to Brigadier General, encompassing various pivotal roles within the Nigerian Army.

Col Nwakonobi, serving as the Chief of Staff of Headquarters 3 Brigade; Col MC Akin Ojo, commanding the 41 Engineer Brigade; and Col BM Madaki as the Deputy Director of the Army Headquarters Operations Monitoring Team, are among the distinguished officers who have been elevated.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, congratulated the newly promoted senior officers and their families.

He emphasized the need for these officers to amplify their dedication and performance, ensuring they uphold the trust and confidence placed in them with this elevation.
