The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has alleged that he was beaten by thugs in Imo State on Friday, November 10.
Ajaero, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja, said that he was arrested by the police in Owerri, the state capital, and handed over to seven thugs who beat him and dragged him on the floor like a common criminal.
He said that the NLC had written to all security agencies before the protest but that workers who arrived at the venue at 7 am were beaten up by thugs and their phones seized.
Ajaero said that he arrived at the scene at 9 am after receiving reports of the assault on workers. He was then arrested by the police and handed over to the thugs.
“I can’t explain the beating I received,” he said. “They tied my hands and dragged me on the floor like a common criminal.”
