An Otukpo-based lawyer and activist, Mike Ofikwu, has been brutally murdered by unknown gunmen at his residence in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night around 8 p.m. outside his home on Otukpa Street in Otukpo town.
Eyewitnesses revealed that Mr. Ofikwu had just returned from work and was waiting for his gate to be opened when two armed men in a vehicle approached and shot him at close range.
“It was like a scene from a movie,” a source who spoke on condition of anonymity recounted. “He had just arrived home and was waiting for his gate to be opened when the assailants, who appeared to have been tailing him, drove up and opened fire before speeding away.”
The source added that the gunshot drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed Mr. Ofikwu to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries after losing a significant amount of blood.
Confirming the incident, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
She assured the public that an investigation had been launched and that the culprits will be brought to book.
